Corporate reforms top govt's agenda for 2021 amid return to normalcy

Experts feel the government is likely to carry forward this theme in the corporate sector next year.

The Corporate Affairs Ministry enters 2021 with plans to help businesses recover and kick off reforms such as direct foreign listing, especially for start-ups and e-commerce companies. 

Some of the government interventions that were triggered by the Covid-19 crisis, and based on the greater use of technology — holding shareholders’ meetings using video conferencing, for one — could be here to stay.

“The pandemic has made us realise that physical presence is not essential for meetings, voting, etc. The government should look at a provision for allowing this post-pandemic as well since digitisation is the way to go forward,” said Madhu Sudan
