Tanishq forays into large format retailing

Tanishq, a branded jewellery maker, has forayed into large format retailing by opening its first large showroom in Bangalore.

Speaking to the media after opening a 4,200-square feet showroom in Bangalore, C K Venkatraman, COO, Tanishq, said that as the company adds branded jewellery segments in diamond, platinum, 22 carat plain gold, Kundan and wedding collections, it needs more space.

"After experimenting in Bangalore, we plan to open four to five stores this fiscal (2006-07) in the country both through the company-owned and franchisee mode. The large format stores will take us closer to making Tanishq the complete jewellery brand catering to varying consumer needs and tastes across all consumer segments," he added.

Tanishq currently has a national retail presence with 84 showrooms spread across 62 cities in India.

The company showroom at Jayanagar provides facilities such as a caratmeter to test the purity of gold and a full-fledged jewellery service centre.

An entire floor has been devoted to showcase the studded range of diamond and ruby jewellery and a select range of high value and studded platinum products.

According to Venkatraman, "An exclusive section devoted to wedding jewellery, comprising a range of pure 22 carat plain gold and Kundan jewellery crafted to cater to the needs of the wedding season has been added. The showroom will provide customers a chance to experience a wide array of traditional and contemporary jewellery."
