Press Trust of India  |  Kaiga (Karnataka)

Safety measures have been stepped up at the nuclear power generating station here in the wake of an incident of tritium of drinking water exactly a year ago even as police appear to have reached a dead end with the probe into the matter.

"We have taken a series of measures because the safety of the plant is involved," Shreyans Kumar Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited. said.

He said television surveillance has been enhanced and a multi-barrier system has been put in place in handling of tritium-laced water that comes out of the reactor.

Jain refused to go into details of the enhanced safety measures but said that officials have also added an element of surprise to it to ensure that the employees do not find out ways to jump the system.
