The sensex rose 59.04 points to close at 3,282.45 on Monday, the biggest single-day rise this year, on renewed buying in technology stocks following smart giants on the US Nasdaq on Friday, and indications that the United States was unlikely to go to war against Iraq very soon.

Select blue-chips also rallied on expectations that the government will unveil a market-friendly Budget.

Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty rose 22.20 points at 1,058.20. Said a dealer at an institutional brokerage,
