Self-evaluation of the board, its committees and directors, which is universally seen as a good practice, has now been included in the Indian corporate governance practice. Section 149 of the Companies Act 2013 has come into force from April 1, 2014, which mandates review of the performance of the chairperson of the company, non-independent directors and the board, by independent directors.
