Tension grips village after murder of youth

Tension prevailed in Chaklahlad village under Vaishali police station area in Bihar's Vaishali district today after a youth was murdered by two assailants, a police officer said.

The youth, identified as Subodh Thakur-a class X student, was hacked to death allegedly by Jalaluddin and his son Jamaluddin, who slit his throat while he was asleep, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandrika Prasad said.

The youth was murdered in an alleged act of honour killing by the assailants after they came to know about his affair with a girl Soni Khatoon, daughter of Jalaluddin, he said.

Both the victim and girl studied in the same school, the SP said.

As news of the murder spread in the village, irate local people torched the assailants' house, Prasad said adding the family members of Jalaluddin fled the village.

Inspector General of Police (IG), Tirhut Zone, Paras Nath and Vaishali District Magistrate Vinod Gunjiyal along with the SP rushed to the village with additional force to control the situation and monitor it.

The situation was tense, but under control, the IG said adding, the cops have been deployed in adequate numbers to deal with any untoward situation.

No arrest has been made in this connection as yet, Nath said.

A murder case has been registered against the accused duo by the victim's mother Sushila Devi under relevant sections of the IPC, he added.
