90 per cent Indian airports run in loss

The Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) makes money from only 13 of the 125 airports it manages across the country. AAI earned record revenue of Rs 10,824 crore in 2015-16 and made a profit of Rs 2,537 crore. The public sector enterprise paid a dividend of Rs 560 crore to the Centre. Almost a third of this income, or Rs 3,379.26 crore, came from the AAI’s share of revenue in private airports.
