Sensex, Nifty end at record closing high as investors cheer BJP's victory

The broader markets outperformed, with the mid- and small-cap indices gaining more than 2% each

The benchmark indices ended at record closing highs on Friday, surpassing the previous closing high that was touched on Monday. A sharp slide in global crude oil prices boosted domestic equities and the rupee on Friday.  Investor sentiment has been buoyant, following the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party's landslide victory in the general election, said experts.  The benchmark Sensex ended 623 points, or 1.61 per cent, higher to end at 39,435, while the Nifty50 jumped 187 points, or 1.6 per cent, higher to close at 11,844.
