Three people allegedly trying to smuggle 700 kg of ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Sri Lanka were arrested and the narcotic was seized in Tiruvarur district on Monday, police said.
Based on a tip-off, the three travelling in a van carrying the ganja worth Rs 3 crore were stopped at Vaduvurcheckpost in the district, they said.
The trio was smuggling the ganja fromAndhra Pradesh to Sri Lanka through Vedaranyam, they said.
A report from Rameswaram said the coastal marine police seized 300 kg of beedi leaves which were strewn between Thangachimadam and Pamban shore, the police said.
It was not known whether the leaves fell into the sea while being smuggled to Sri Lanka and got washed ashore or got wet in the seashore before being smuggled, they said.
Investigations are on, they added.
