Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

Kumar also spoke on the need for speedy judicial reforms and said efforts will be made to ensure that judicial vacancies are filled up as early as possible.

"I would promote and facilitate constructive, congenial, communicative and harmonious relationship between the political executive and the higher judiciary," Kumar, a lawyer by profession, said at an interaction with reporters in the Supreme Court complex.

Noting that the organs of the state should not be working at "cross purposes", he said they have to function within the framework of the Constitution, "as envisaged by the founding fathers", in the aid and furtherance of the Constitutional goals.

"Our commitment to rule of law is to strengthen further the physical and human infrastructure for the judiciary and to promote efficacy in the process of dispensation of justice," he added.

Stating that constructive judicial activism has been witnessed in the past in aid and furtherance of Constitutional goals, Kumar said there will be no intention directly or indirectly in any manner to dilute the independence of the judiciary. (MORE)
