Oct 2 declared World Melody Day to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti

"Music represents peace and tranquility.

That is what the Mahatma is all about- peace, harmony, tranquility, and that is what he has taught us," V Raghurama Ayyar, Secretary-General of The Veena Foundation V Raghurama Ayyar said.

Celebrating Gandhi's inspirational and extraordinary impact on Indians, the Veena Foundation, in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Rasikapriya Sunaad and Tanseen Sangeet Mahavidyala, has organised a Violin recital to be performed by Padma Bhushan Prof T N Krishnan tomorrow.

He will also be awarded the 'Sangeetgyaan Tatvagya' award by the Foundation.

The World Melody Day will also be celebrated every year, beginning this year, in India and Australia, Japan, USA, Singapore, Malaysia and Europe.
