Tribals meet C'garh CM to secure their claim on land

Press Trust of India  |  Raipur

"A delegation of forest dwellers of Baiga tribe from Ghugwapani village in Bodla development block of the district have requested CM Raman Singh to provide them rights over the land where they have been dwelling under Forest Rights Act, stating that their claim was pending since long," official sources said today.

The delegation of tribals met the chief minister at his official residence here yesterday.

According to the sources, 27 tribal families living in the village and doing farming for the past several years there have not only been barred from doing so but asked to leave the land by some forest department officials prompting them to approach the chief minister.

After hearing their plea, Raman Singh assured them that he would take an early action and directed the officials concerned to look into the matter.
