Konkan Railway Dedication On May 1

The 760-km Konkan Railway line will be formally dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister at Ratnagiri on May 1. Billed as Asias largest rail line, the Konkan project, built at a cost of over Rs.3,400 crore, was commissioned on January 26. Work on the project began in October 1990. The new line would reduce distance between Delhi and Mangalore, Mumbai and Mangalore, Ahmedabad and Mangalore and Mumbai and Gao. A special function will be held to mark the occasion which will be attended by railway minister Nitish Kumar and the chief ministers of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa equity partners in the project.
