Incorporated in Jun.'86 as a private limited company, Banka (India) (BIL) was converted into a public limited company in Aug.'88. The company was promoted by the Banka group with R H Banka as its chief promoter. BIL is engaged in the construction of major river bridges, flyovers and other civil engineering works such as construction of industrial structures, elevated bunkers and water augmentation projects. BIL has successfully completed many projects like the 1-km long bridge on Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh; flyover at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh; road overbridge at Matunga, Mumbai; the first pre-stressed concrete bridge ever constructed near Aizwal in Mizoram. BIL went public with its maiden issue in Oct.'93 to purchase various items of plant and machinery so as to mechanise the operations as well as to augment long-term capital to enlarge the scope of operations. In keeping with the traditional strength in engineering, the company has diversified into housing construction starting off with a 15,000-sq mtr complex at Vasai, near Bombay. It also seeks to diversify into the generation and distribution of power.
