Incorporated in Dec.'91 as a private limited company, Great Western Industries (GWIL) was converted into a public limited company in Jan.'95. The original promoters of the company were V G Siddhartha, N K Malhotra and their associates and was formed for the purpose of processing and exporting pickled vegetables. Raymond John Kelly, an Australian national, joined the company as an investor and subsequently became a director in Mar.'93. At the request of original promoters, Raymond Kelly started performing his international marketing functions in India since Jul.'93. Subsequently, over a period of time, K S Ramasubramanian and associates acquired the shares from the erstwhile promoters and took charge of the management of the company. GWIL is engaged in the business of manufacturing and export of gherkins in brine; acidulated white onions at its 100% EOU located at Whitefield, Bangalore. The products are exported to France, Spain, UK, Holland, Australia, Belgium, US, Canada and Philippines. In 1995-96, the company proposd to expand its current production capacity of 4000 tpa of the processing of gherkins and white onions to 10,000 tpa, by setting up a new unit at Irunkatukottai, near Madras. It came out with a public issue in Jan.'96 to part-finance the project. During the year 1996-97, a new processing facility was set up in Tirunelveli.
