Incorporated on 30 Oct.'61 to acquire tea gardens and to cultivate and sell tea, Hanuman Tea Company (HTCL) commenced business on 8 Dec.'61. HTCL was promoted by the Bagla group of Calcutta. S V Bagla is the present managing director. The company acquired tea gardens in Upper Assam in the name of Sonajuli Tea Estate with 928 hectares area in Oct.'61. The company diversified into the production and marketing of packet tea in 1991-92. The average annual production of the company is over 9 lac kg of tea. In Jan.'95, HTCL came out with a public issue of 17 lac equity shares at a premium of Rs 40, aggregating Rs 8.5 cr. The issue was to part-finance the Rs 11.84-cr project to acquire an existing tea garden in the Dooars area with a production of about 7.68 lac kg of tea. The companies Sonajuli Tea Estate is the third C.T.C. tea estates to receive the ISO 9002 certification. The certification process was handled by the Quality Registrars, USA. Company has acquired Lahorijan & Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate located at Assam on 17th July, 1999 with total area of 2287.62 Bighas. Presently the Garden producing 80,000 kgs made tea but company is confident about land has potential to produce 5,00,000 kgs tea. Company is contemplating to make the organic tea in a particular garden which have higher realisation compared to normal tea produce. Company has plan to make Expansion & Modernisation of two factory Sonajuli Tea & Ramjhora Tea. Company has installed tubewell and irrigation system at Ramjhora Tea factory.
