Established as Usha Services & Consultants Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Usha Rectifier Corporation (I) (URCIL), the company's management changed after URCIL diluted its holdings. It subsequently became a public limited company in 1992. Initially representing and offering consultancy services to reputed foreign and Indian companies, it later diversified into computer software development and exports, trading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, payphone networks and leasing. The company has the requisite facilities to develop and support computer networks and other applications, and specialises in developing networking and terminal evaluation software. It also provides facilities for on-site software consultancy services. Its software is marketed in the US and Europe, where it has a large installation base, strengthened by establishing a joint venture, Usha Inc, in California to market its software. Its payphone network in Delhi has installed smart card public payphones. In 2000, ITIL shifted its business focus towards providing web based solutions to the customers. It has signed a technology alliance partnership with BEA, one of the largest in this field. It has also forged alliance with WebON AS, a leading software company in developing and implementing e-commerce solutions. In May 2001, the company acquired a 28% stake in UK-based softwaresolutions company IonTechnologies. It also has established sales & marketing set ups in UAE to tap the growing market in the gilf region. |
