Promoted in 1973 by the late M H Kadakia, Ashok Organic Industries went public in 1992. It manufactures and markets caustic soda, liquid chlorine, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen, calcium hypo, sodium hypo and barium sulphate. Caustic soda finds application in various industries such as man-made fibres and cotton textiles, soaps and detergents, paper and paper board, drugs and pharmaceuticals, dyes and intermediates, aluminium, etc. Chlorine finds application in chlorine-based products (like polyvinyl chloride, monochloroacetic acid, etc) and in textiles, yarn, etc. The company has a technical collaboration with Chlorine Engineers Corporation, Japan. It came out with a public issue in Feb.'95 to finance phase-II of the caustic-chlorine project, which went on stream in Feb.'96. It enhanced the capacity of its caustic soda / chlorine plant from 100 tpd to 160 tpd and to set up a captive power plant. Expansion of the capacity of caustic/chlorine unit was completed during 1995-96 and the plant is being operated with enhanced capacity. Production and sales of products of acetic acid showed encouraging trend and the production lines received further boost. The company's Chlor-alkali unit was hived-off to its wholly owned subsidiary of Kadakia alkalies & Chemicals Ltd with effect to this the Share Capital of the company was changed to Rs 12.08 crores. The company's networth was fully erorded and it made a reference to BIFR .
