Mohan Meakin Ltd.(MML), the first Indian brewery set up by Edward Dyer in 1855, the company was rechristened Dyer Meakin after its merger with another British firm owned by H C Meakin. The name of the company was changed to Mohan Meakin Breweries in Nov.'66. The company acquired it's present name in 1980, after it diversified into other activities. MML's Alcoholic products portfolio includes Beer, Whiskies, Rum, Brandy, Vodka and Gins. It markets it's alcoholic products under flagship brands such as Old Monk, Golden Eagle, Black Knight & Solan No.1 and various other brands. The company is also into manufacture of breakfast cereals, processed foods and beverages, mineral water, glass bottles, etc. It also exports alcoholic products, textile fabrics and made-ups, leather garments and consumer durables. Mohan Fiji Glass Manufacturing, co-promoted with Suva, Fiji, has a glass factory to manufacture bottles. Another company, Mohan Meakin Kenya, was formed with assistance from Galot Industries, Kenya, to set up a distillery and glass bottle manufacturing unit. MacDonald Mohan Distillers is the new joint venture formed with MacDonald and Muir Distillers, UK. MML has marketing tie-ups with Marie Brizard and Rogers International and Larsen, for bottling and marketing the Marie Brizard brand and Larsen's cognac respectively. During 1995-96, two brands namely Highland Queen and Grand Reserve whisky were launched. MML has proposed to launch few more new brands of Scotch Whisky by Joint Venture.
