Incorporated on 6 Nov.'81 as Metasulf Pvt Ltd, MTZ Industries, formerly known as MTZ (India) was promoted by an NRI, Sanjay B Shah. It manufactures zinc oxide, oleum, sulphuric acid, insoluble sulphur, dispersing agents and dye-intermediaries. It is also involved in international trading. Zinc oxide is a vital raw material for the type industry and also finds use in other rubber products, chemicals and paints; oleum is used in the production of soaps, detergents and insecticides. Sulphuric acid is used mainly to manufacture fertilisers and other chemicals. Insoluble sulphur is a speciality chemical widely used in the rubber industry as a vulcanizing agent.Dispersing agents are mainly used in textiles, dyestuffs, pesticides, rubber and cement / concrete. Dye-intermediates find use in dyestuff intermediates. The company has entered into a technical collaboration with Kali Chemie Akzo, Germany, to manufacture insoluble sulphur. The company came out with a public issue, in Mar.'94, to manufacture organic rubber chemicals. It has entered into a technical-know-how collaboration with Vucht, Slovakia. The company commissioned the 5500 TPA Precipitated Silica unit at Patalganga in July, 1997 there by taking the total capacity to 10000 TPA. The Rubber Chemical project was not implemented during 2001-02 due to lack of market growth in the tyre and rubber industry and the continued penetration of cheaper imports which were aided by the reduction in customs duty. industrial growth rate for Rubber in India is plunging to a decade low.
