Incorporated in Mar.'93 as a public limited company, Northland Sugar Complex (NSCL) was promoted by the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation and P L Maini and his associates. NSL went public with its maiden issue in Sep.'94 to part-finance the setting up of a plant at Randhawa to manufacture white crystal sugar with an installed capacity of 2500 tcd. NSCL took over the Dasuya Corporation Sugar Mills from the Punjab Industrial Development Corporation in Jan.'93. The plant was commissioned in Jan.'95. During 1994-95, NSCL crushed 5515.2 lac tonnes of cane and produced 4232.5 tonnes of sugar with an average recovery of 7.67% which is low because of initial trial runs.
