Unipon (India) was incorporated as a private limited company in Mar.'74 as N K Textiles. Its name was changed to United Poly Yarn in Jun.'85, and again to Unipon (India) Pvt Ltd in Jun.'88, and subsequently it went public. The company is engaged in the business of texturising, twisting, draw twisting and dyeing of polyester filament yarn. Its plants are located in Silvassa and Kadi. The company offered rights at a premium of Rs 10 per share to double its capacity of draw twisting yarn from 590 tpa to 1180 tpa. During 1994-95, the company was sanctioned assistance of Rs 6.45 cr by ICICI for the expansion programme undertaken by Sungrace Polyesters [a division of Unipon (India)] for the manufacture of polyester roto yarn and texturised yarn, with an installed capacity of 2355 tpa, in Rakoli, Silvassa. The company increased the installed capacity of twisting machines to 9 nos from 8 nos during previous year.
