Panchmahal Cement (PCL) manufactures portland cement which is sold under the Mayur brand name. Promoted by R M Amin and others, PCL commenced commercial production in May '85. It has plants in Chhapri and Dahod (Panchmahal district), Gujarat. PCL first came into the capital market in 1983 with a public issue of Rs 2.7 cr. It again went public with a rights offer in Oct.'93. The quality of cement produced by the company has been improved by upgrading it to 43-grade cement. This cement (with improved strength) under the Shree Kali brand name has been well accepted in the market. During 1994-95, on account of an irregular supply of coal and limestone, the plant at Dahod was closed for short periods. Power cuts imposed by the Gujarat Electricity Board also affected the production. In 1998, the Bombay High Court's Receiver sealed the companys Dahod plant. The management is making all the efforts to recommence the plant's operations.
