Incorporated in Sep.'83, Pertech Computers (PCL) started operations in 1983 by marketing the products of Altos India. In 1987, it had started trading in personal computers (PCs). Thereafter it has been concentrating on the marketing of computers besides providing maintenance and support services. PCL has a strategic alliance with DELL Computers, US, for selling their full range of computer products in India. In 1987, PCL set up a software development centre at Okhla, New Delhi, for developing customised software. PCL has entered into a marketing tie-up with Word Perfect Corporation, US, and Parametric Technologies, US, for software sales and technical support for their products in India, besides distribution tie-ups with Ingres Corporation, US; SCO Systems, US; and Opus System, US, for marketing their products. PCL went public in Aug.'94 at a premium of Rs 50 per share to part-finance its diversification into software exports and manufacturing computers. In Nov.'95, PCL launched a new computer designed for the small-office, home-office (SOHO). During 1994, the company earned foreign exchange worth Rs 7.7 lac. PCL has been incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary (WOS), Mindware Pertech, in the US. It has also incorporated another WOS in Singapore named Mindware PCL. The company is planning to enter into the fax business by tying up with Brother Industries of Japan.
