Promoted by T K Mohan and T Manoharan, Protchem Industries came out with a public issue in Apr.'89 to set up a 100% EOU to produce 1400 tpa amino acid powder, 84 tpa l-cystine and 24 tpa l-tyrosine, for all of which human hair is the main raw material. The company's amino acid powder plant which was idle for almost three years, commenced commercial production from Dec.'93. In 1993-94, the company developed a process for the production of hydrolysed vegetable protein product (HVP), a value added one. To further refine the process technology to produce HVP, it entered into a technical and marketing agreement with Haco, Switzerland, a renowned manufacturer of food products. Haco will market the major portion of this product in Europe. The company commenced the commercial production of soya protein (HVP) during Apr.'95. The company has commenced production of derivatives of L-Cystine at the Madhuranthagam Unit during May 2000. The company is planning to commence production of herbal extracts shortly.
