Siris was incorporated in Dec.'66 as a private limited company as South India Research Institute (Hyderabad) Pvt Ltd in Andhra Pradesh. It became a deemed public limited company in Dec.'85 and was named Siris with effect from Oct.'87. The company was promoted by G S Raju and P G Shanbhag in 1966.It is one of the first companies in India in the private sector to sell Analgin. The company's strength lies in backward integration wherein several high-value intermediates acetyl sulphonyl chloride di-methyl oxalate etc are manufactured in-house. The company has an in-house R&D department and is a recognised Export House. It exports its products mainly to Germany Japan the UK and Denmark. The company undertook setting up a multipurpose bulk drug plant at Gopanapalli (Ranga Reddy district) AP apart from modernising its plant and its R&D unit for the manufacture of ciprofloxacin. Land admeasuring 40 acres was acquired at Gopanapalli. The installed capacity of the Bulk Drugs & Bulk Intermediates was expanded by 1800 mtpa to 6600 mtpa. The Company has started Formulation Division during January 1998. The basic thrust of this division is for developing Pharmaceutical Formulations both for Domestic and International Markets.Due to the erosion of the networth of the company it has become a sick industrial company and a reference is made to the BIFR.
