Sterling (Gujarat) Hospials (SGHL) was promoted by taking over the partnership form of Sterling (Gujarat) Hospitals in May '89. SGHL was originally promoted by M D Patel and B Kumar alongwith other partners for setting up a hospital with a capacity of 215 beds with technical consultancy from Indian Hospital Corporation (consultancy wing of Apollo Hospital group). Later on, Indian Hospital Corporation participated in the equity of the company to the extent of Rs 20 lac. Subsequently, in view of the prolonged illness of B Kumar and the death of M D Patel, the company broadbased its board and inducted professionals like Madhukant J Shah, Nayan C Shah, Ashok K Shah, as co-promoters. The company is in the process of setting up and running a multi-speciality hospial equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment to provide the modern and highly specialised treatment to the patients. All critical life saving equipment is to be imported from international manufacturers. It came out with a public issue in Feb.'96 to part-finance its project. Due to non-availability of funds, the company has not been able to implement the project within the scheduled time as envisaged and the management is trying its level best to raise funds from other sources to complete the project.
