Asia's oldest stock exchange has gone through various phases through nearly 140 years of existence.

Brokers traded under the the shade of trees before the exchange was formally established in 1875.They first traded 
in front of the old town hall. They then moved to the junction of Meadows street and Mahatma Gandhi road. In 1874 brokers finally moved its present day home, the aptly named Dalal Street.

Action also happened outside the stock exchange, with kerb trading continuing into the late nineties. Here brokers
hit dumped shares after the budget in 1998.
