Budget 2018: Meet the key men who will decide your taxes this year
On February 1, all eyes will be on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley when he rises to present the Union Budget 2018-19 to the nation. Jaitley has his task cut out for the dwindling Indian economy, which has decelerated due to the note ban and GST.
On January 20, Jaitley officially launched the formal printing of documents relating to the Budget after performing 'Halwa' ceremony.
Here is a list of key minds behind the making of the Budget 2018:
Arvind Subramanium: Economist and the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, he took charge of the position on 16 October 2014. A pro-market ideologue, Subramanium has been a vocal supporter of the universal basic income.
Hasmukh Adhia: A Gujarat cadre IAS officer of the 1981 batch, he is leading the Budget-making team as the Finance Secretary.
Shiv Pratap Shukla: Is currently serving as Minister of State for Finance for Modi govt.
Ajay Narayan Jha: A Manipur Cadre IAS officer of the 1982 batch, he is Secretary to the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.
Rajiv Kumar: A 1984 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, he is currently the Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.
Subhashchandra Garg: He is a 1984 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, and currently serving as Economic Affairs Secretary.
