After onion, pulses price rises across India

Nagpur/Kanpur, Sep 11 (ANI): After soaring prices of onions left the common man teary-eyed, it is now pulses that are becoming heavy on the pockets of Indians as some of them are being sold at rupees 100 per kilogram. The common man is feeling the pinch of inflation as pulses - a key source of protein in a largely vegetarian country - are now beyond their reach.

Several measures were taken by the government to control the prices, but all attempts failed. Higher food prices pushed India's retail inflation to an eight-month high in June, as retail prices rose to 5.4 percent year-on-year in the month.

Food prices were up 5.48 percent from 4.8 percent in May. Despite the arrival of new domestic supplies expected to help calm the prices, it seems there will be no respite for consumers until November as a long-term solution is required to solve the problem.
