At least four dead after consuming spurious liquor in UP's Unnao

Kanpur, Aug 24 (ANI): At least four people died and two had been admitted to a hospital after they consumed illicit liquor in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in a village under Unnao district.

Some people complained of uneasiness and some even started vomiting after consuming spurious country liquor. One died on the spot while three others were rushed to a local hospital.

They were later taken to another hospital in Kanpur city, but could not survive. It is uncertain as to how many people consumed this liquor, which was produced in the village itself.

In December 2011, a major hooch tragedy in West Bengal had claimed lives of around 170 people, mostly rickshaw pullers and labourers. Homemade liquor, often using poisonous industrial methanol, is popular among the poor in India because it is cheap.
