Citizens look for tax, price reduction in General Budget

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): The people have high expectations from the General Budget to be presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Parliament on Monday. Reduction in tax, prices of essential commodities and an increase in tax slab of senior citizens top the list of demands of the people in Himachal Pradesh's Haldwani city.

Sheshgiri Kulkarni, a chartered accountant in Hubli, Karnataka, urged the government to come up with a policy regulating online businesses and sought passage of the landmark Goods and Services Tax bill. Similarly, the residents in Shimla asked the government to check price rise.

Though the previous Annual Budget increased the service tax by 14 percent, citizens throughout the country are requesting the government to not do so this year. The Economic Survey, released on Friday, said it was important to arrest a decline in food production to ensure sustainable livelihoods for farmers and food security for the country's 1.25 billion people.
