Congress sells onions at half the market price in Jaipur to protest against govt

Jaipur, Aug 26 (ANI): The sharp rise in prices of onions took a political turn on Wednesday (August 26) as opposition Congress party sold the vegetable at half the market prices in Jaipur. Congress spokesperson in Jaipur, Archana Sharma, distributed onions to consumers at 40 rupees per kilogram after buying them at the same price from wholesale market.

Prices have hit 80 rupees in India as scant monsoon rain delays plantings. Sharma alleged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) economic policies have failed and the government is doing nothing to control the soaring prices of basic food commodities.

Sharma added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is backing from its promise of lowering the prices of basic food items and is rather burning holes in common man's pockets. Meanwhile, the residents in Jaipur were relieved to get onions at cheap rates and did not bother about the politicizing of the issue.
