Exiled Tibetans hold protest demanding release of activist detained by China

Dharamshala (HP), Jan 05 (ANI): A group of exiled Tibetans staged a demonstration against the Chinese for detaining a 32-year-old Tibetan advocate and activist who stands trial on charges of allegedly 'inciting separatism'. Tashi Wangchuk was detained in January 2016 for appearing in a video in which he advocated for the rights of Tibetans to learn and study in their mother tongue.

He had criticized the Chinese government for allegedly destroying Tibetan culture in the video. Protestors held a signature campaign and appealed the people to show their support for the cause.

During his trial on Thursday, Wangchuk pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him. The judge is expected to announce the verdict at a later date.

If convicted, Wangchuk faces up to 15 years in prison.
