Expansion of Chandigarh International Airport to boost industrialization

Chandigarh, Dec 15 (ANI): The new international terminal in Mohali, inaugurated in September last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, comes as a boon for passengers from Punjab, Haryana and other adjoining states. Spread out in an area of 305 acres, the Chandigarh International Airport has been built using the latest green technologies, making the terminal building energy efficient.

Airports Authority of India holds a 51 per cent share in the airport while states of Punjab and Haryana have 24.5 per cent stake each. The terminal is proposed to be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh and is equipped with all facilities to handle international flights.

It handles over a dozen domestic and two international flights to Dubai and Sharjah at present. With the increase in the number of flights, authorities are planning to set-up duty-free shops, a Wi-Fi lounge as well as restaurants at the airport.
