Fasting ex-serviceman hospitalized as his health deteriorates

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): Colonel (retired) of Indian Army Pushpendra Singh, who is on indefinite hunger strike for implementation of one rank, one pension (OROP) scheme, was rushed to the hospital after his health deteriorated. The 63-year-old Colonel, who has been fasting for a week in New Delhi along with his two colleagues, was replaced on the fast by another ex-serviceman.

The Central government has promised early implementation of OROP and urged the soldiers to call off their stir. However, after government failed to set a date on its implementation, the ex-servicemen declared an indefinite hunger strike.

OROP has been a long-standing demand of ex-servicemen and relates to payment of uniform pension to defence forces personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.
