Gujarat's first four-lane cable-stayed bridge to be opened today

Surat (Gujarat), Oct 02 (ANI): Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will be inaugurating Gujarat's first four-lane cable-stayed bridge on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in Surat on Tuesday. Known as the diamond City, textile city and also as the city of bridges, Surat boasts of more than 100 bridges.

The newest edition to this number is going to be a cable-stayed bridge which is one of its kinds in the state of Gujarat. The bridge is open to two-way traffic with its load being only on the cables.

A similar such bridge is only in Kolkata in the country and now it will be in Surat as well. The bridge constructed with the expenditure of 143.64 crore rupees, will give a new identity to the city.

In more than 100 other bridges in the city, the distance between two pillars is generally 50 metres, but that distance is 150 metres in the cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is 1344 metres long, 21 metres broad and has 110 feet heighted pillars.
