Health of hunger striking army veteran Havaldar Abhilekh Singh worsens

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): The medical condition of army veteran Havaldar Abhilekh Singh, who has been on a hunger strike over a demand for one rank one person, took a turn for the worse on Saturday afternoon, and he has been rushed to hospital. Preliminary reports said that he has been taken to the Army Research and Referral Hospital.

Retired military personnel had boycotted the government's celebrations of the 50th anniversary of India's 1965 war with Pakistan on Thursday, and expressed their displeasure at Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's failure to give a concrete decision on the OROP issue. Parrikar had earlier hinted at the possibility of the government approving the OROP scheme for retired armed forces personnel, but did not give any concrete ruling on the matter.
