Himachal Pradesh restarts monkey sterlisation campaign in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Apr 14 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh relaunched sterilization drive for monkeys in capital Shimla to control booming simian population. The state has engaged monkey catchers after repeated complaints by locals.

Monkeys roaming around the city are a common sight. There have also been incidents of monkeys attacking people.

Perched atop buildings, gates, carts telephone and electric wires, these monkeys are constantly on the lookout for eatables and sometimes attack people carrying food items. The authorities give monkey catchers a remuneration of 700 rupees per monkey and the primates would be then handed over to sterilization centres where veterinarians will perform procedures to sterilize them.
