Hindu refugees from Pakistan protest, demand citizenship

Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 16 (ANI): Hindu refugees from Pakistan held protests in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, demanding citizenship. Thousands of Hindu and Sikh refugees migrated from Pakistan to Jammu city with their families in 1947, when the partition took place.

In Kathua district, the slogan-shouting protesters demanded 'permanent resident' status to take part in the provincial elections and to join government services. The Protesters under the banner of Association of Refugees from West Pakistan accused the state government of not taking any steps to address their grievance.

They settled in different parts of Jammu region and have been living demanding citizenship rights from the beginning.
