IMA holds nationwide protest against NMC Bill, asserts it is unconstitutional

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): The Indian Medical Association called for a 12-hour protest all over the country to vehemently oppose the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill on Tuesday. The bill grants monopoly to the Centre and significantly suppresses the role of the states in matters related to medical administration.

The bill will further "cripple" the functioning of medical professionals by making them completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators. The outpatient department (OPD) services at hospitals across the country, except in Hyderabad, have been affected today.

However, hospitals have not denied admission to patients who need immediate care. Doctors observed a black day, wore arm bands while seeing patients.
