India's luxury train 'Palace on Wheels' resumes journey post revamp

New Delhi, Sep 03 (ANI): India's luxury train 'Palace on Wheels' set out on its first journey after a complete renovation of its much praised "royal" interiors. The train was flagged off from New Delhi's Safdarjung railway station and will make stops at prominent cities in Rajasthan.

The train will halt at Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur in Rajasthan, before making a stop at Taj city Agra in Uttar Pradesh. A whopping rupees 3.5 million has been spent on the revamped interiors of the train.

As a result, the passenger fare has been raised by 10 percent. General Manager of 'Palace on Wheels', Pradeep Bora, said that the train now had a more "royal look".

Passengers could now enjoy Wi-Fi facilities in the train, added Bora. 'Palace on Wheels' is a joint venture of Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC).

The train has been in existence from the last 33 years. The first ride of 'Palace on Wheels' started in 1982.
