Indian army carries out flag march after quota protest turns violent in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Aug 27 (ANI): The Indian army carried out a flag march across Ahmedabad city in Gujarat after violence broke out at a protest led by Patel community demanding quota in government jobs and education. Five army columns conducted the flag march across the city.

Three C-17 Globemaster and one C-130 Super Hercules aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) carrying paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel landed at Ahmedabad earlier in the day. Additional forces were rushed to Gujarat as requested by the state government after the protests.

Curfew was clamped in parts of the state after members of Patel community resorted to arson, stone-pelting and vandalism on Tuesday. Leading the protest to demand Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation for the Patel community in Gujarat convener of 'Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti', Hardik Patel demanded action against the police personnel who allegedly physically assaulted the protesters.
