ISRO's 25th communication satellite GSAT-6 to be launched today

Sriharikota, Aug 27 (ANI): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch its 25th communication satellite GSAT-6 from Sriharikota seaport in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. The satellite will be propelled into space by GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle)-D6 at 04:52 pm (1122 GMT) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.

The advanced communication satellite GSAT-6 has a lift-off mass of 2,117 kilogram. It will provide S-band communication services in the country.

After reaching Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO), GSAT-6 will use its own propulsion system to reach its final geostationary orbital home and will be stationed at 83 degrees East longitude. On the other hand, the metallic payload fairing of GSLV-D6 has a diameter of 3.4 metre and the overall length of GSLV-D6 is 49.1 metre with a lift-off mass of 416 tonnes.

It is the fifth developmental flight of GSLV. The mission life of the satellite is nine years.
