Kangri sales go up as winter grips Kashmir valley

Srinagar (J and K), Dec 23 (ANI): With electricity in the Kashmir Valley playing hide and seek with the population coupled with dipping mercury, which created the perfect condition for the Kangri traders to sell Kangris (Traditional Fire Pot) like hot cokes these days. Made from the dried twigs of willow trees and a round earthen pot, there has been a surge in the sale of Kangris in valley as it witnessed snowfall on higher reaches and rainfall in plains.

Kangri is preferred over other heating devices in winters in rural as well as urban Kashmir. People believe that this traditional device (Kangri) is easy to prepare and unlike electrical heating devices, can be carried along if you happen to take a stroll.

It is the easiest and cheapest way to keep warm in the chilling cold of Kashmir. Huge stocks of Kangris can be seen in the markets and busy streets these days.
