Kashmir hosts cricket league to promote young players

Srinagar, Sept 08 (ANI): A cricket tournament Downtown Championship League (DCL) 2015, based on the pattern of Indian Premier League (IPL), has been underway in Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. The cricket league aims to recognize and financially support budding cricket players of Kashmir.

He added that last year's tournament had to be aborted due to devastating floods that had hit Kashmir. Matches are being played at two different venues in Srinagar, Sher-e-Kashmir stadium and Kashmir University.

The first match was held on September 2. The tournament is slated to conclude by the end of September.

A player from one of the teams, Downtown Tigers, Asif Iqbal, said the tournament was an opportunity for young cricketers to display their talents. Downtown Tigers is a new team introduced in this year's tournament.

Participating teams are contending for the Khyber Big Downtown Champions League T20 trophy. Khyber Big is the official sponsor of the tournament.
