Left front farmers rally in Howrah turns violent

Howrah, Aug 27 (ANI): Left parties on Thursday protested in West Bengal's Howrah district against Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress government over farmers not getting Minimum Support Price and other farmer issues. The Krisha Sabha, the agricultural front of the CPM had given a call for a march to Nabanna - the seat of Mamata Banerjee, in protest of the flood relief mess, soaring prices of essential commodities and the state government's failure to check prices.

Soon the protest took a violent turn as the Left Front supporters clashed with the policemen. The trouble started when the Left Front supporters, who were marching towards Nabanna, were stopped by police.

After the exchange of words, protesters grew restive and started hurling stones at the policemen. Police also used water cannons to control the protesters.
