Locals savour traditional winter delicacy Harissa to beat the chill

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 26 (ANI): People thronged eating joints in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar to relish the traditional delicacy, Harissa, which is prepared with mutton, rice and a lot of and spices. Harissa is traditional spicy meat porridge with unique concoctions of the world-renowned Kashmiri saffron, aromatic spices, rice, meat and salts.

With the 40-day-long harshest period of winter in Kashmir, locally called 'Chillai Kalan', began in the valley, locals queued up outside traditional shops selling Harissa. Generally eaten during breakfast and served with traditional baked bread as an accompaniment, 'Harissa' is served steaming hot, topped with clarified butter.
