Medical aid rushed, rescue operations in full swing after Duronto Express derails in Karnataka

Kalburgi/New Delhi, Sep 12 (ANI): Medical aid was rushed and rescue operations are in full swing after nine coaches of a Mumbai-bound passenger train derailed in Karnataka in the early hours of Saturday. At least two people died and seven others were injured in the accident.

The Duronto Express was bound from Secunderabad city when it derailed at Martur railway station in Kalburgi district in Karnataka at 2.15 am, according to railway officials. The injured were rushed to the hospital as rescuers pulled out passengers from the coaches.

Passengers recounted the horror of people being flung out of the coaches. Meanwhile, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted: "Saddened by Duranto accident.

Ordered enquiry. Immediate medical relief and other assistance rushed.
