No dispute over water sharing between Kerala and TN from Mullaperiyar dam, says Chandy

Coimbatore, Sep 07 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that there is no dispute between the two neighbours Kerala and Tamil Nadu over water sharing from the Mullaperiyar. Chandy said that Kerala wants to maintain good relations with its neighbour adding that the state is ready to supply essential water to Tamil Nadu.

He added that Kerala is only concerned about the safety of its people. The Mullaperiyar dam built over the Periyar river in Kerala has for long been a matter of dispute among the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Although the 116-year-old dam is located in Kerala, it is operated by the government of Tamil Nadu which signed a 999-year lease agreement with the former British government to irrigate farmland on its side.
